Drammen is the fifth-largest urban zone and metropolitan area in Norway with 115 137 residents. The urban zone also include Nedre Eiker, Øvre Eiker, Lier and Røyken. The port and river city of Drammen is located in the eastern and most populated part of Norway.
The city makes good use of the river and inland waterway called Drammensfjord, both for recreation, activities and housing. No city in the country has received as many awards for environmental and urban development as Drammen. Drammen Theater was built in 1869 and was the first modern theater in the country. Drammen Museum of Art and Cultural History is located in the center of the city.
Because of the city's northern latitude, daylight varies greatly, from more than 18 hours in midsummer, when it never gets completely dark at nigh, to around 6 hours in midwinter. Drammen features a temperate humid continental climate (Köppen Dfb), but with mild winters for this climate zone.
